Colchester 0-2 Blackpool

Blackpool stretched their unbeaten league run to seven games with a comfortable win over Colchester at Layer Road.

Second-half goals from John Murphy and Danny Coid sealed victory for Steve McMahon's side.

An otherwise dismal first half was illuminated by outstanding saves from both goalkeepers.

Beyond doubt

Colchester`s Simon Brown pushed away a fine effort from Simon Grayson while Phil Barnes dived to block a powerful shot by Kemal Izzet.

The game came to life after half-time when Blackpool broke the deadlock after 52 minutes.

Scott Taylor had two shots brilliantly saved by Brown but there was nothing the goalkeeper could do as Murphy bundled the second rebound over the line.

Blackpool put the result beyond doubt with a brilliant solo effort from Coid after 70 minutes.

Colchester's Karl Duguid was then sent off for his second bookable offence.

Colchester: Brown, Warren, Fitzgerald, Chilvers, Duguid, Bowry, Izzet, Keith, Stockwell, Coote, Williams. Subs: McGleish, Keeble, Atangana, Baldwin, McKinney.

Blackpool: Barnes, Richardson, Grayson, Flynn, Coid, Southern, Wellens, Evans, Taylor, Walker, Murphy. Subs: Jaszczun, O'Kane, Thornley, Dalglish, Clarke.

Referee: C Webster (Tyne & Wear)
