Wigan 2-1 Colchester

Division Two leaders Wigan extended their winning run to 11 league games they beat Colchester at the JJB Stadium.

Jason De Vos broke the deadlock just before half-time with a simple goal.

Gary Teale's corner from the right was headed home by De Vos for the defender's fifth goal in eight games.

Wigan created plenty of chances early in the second half with Teale, Nathan Ellington and Andy Liddell all going close.

Liddell doubled the lead to kill off hopes of a Colchester comeback after 74 minutes.

Scott McGleish was adjudged to have fouled De Vos, and Liddell blasted home the resulting spot-kick for his 11th goal of the season.

Colchester grabbed a late consolation with the game's second penalty as Joe Keith kept his nerve from the spot after goalkeeper John Filan had brought down Simon Atangana.

Wigan: Filan, Eaden, De Vos, Jackson, Kennedy, Teale, Mitchell, Dinning, McCulloch, Ellington, Liddell. Subs: Beasant, Roberts, McMillan, Jarrett, Breckin.

Colchester: Brown, Warren, Fitzgerald, White, Duguid, Stockwell, Bowry, Izzet, Keith, Coote, McGleish. Subs: Morgan, Keeble, Atangana, Baldwin, McKinney.

Referee: A Penn (W Midlands).
