Crewe 1-0 Huddersfield
Crewe left Huddersfield in desperate trouble at the bottom of Division Two after a cruel last-gasp goal condemned the Terriers to defeat. The game was deep into injury time when Steve Jones hit the net from six yards to keep Crewe in third place. Huddersfield looked to have earned a point despite the 63rd-minute dismissal of goalkeeper Scott Bevan for a deliberate handball outside the area. But substitute keeper Phil Senior could only parry a late Rob Hulse header and Jones pounced to claim his fourth goal in three games. Bevan had earlier kept out David Wright and David Vaughan but Huddersfield were left to rue wasted opportunities which fell to strikers Martin Smith and Andy Booth. Crewe: Bankole, Sodje, Walton, Foster, Wright, Lunt, Brammer, Sorvel, Vaughan, Hulse, Jones. Subs: Tomlinson, Walker, Rix, Tierney, Edwards. Huddersfield: Bevan, Jenkins, Moses, Youds, Sharp, Baldry, Irons, Mattis, Holland, Booth, Smith. Subs: Senior, Heary, Thorrington, Brown, Worthington. Referee: M Cowburn (Lancashire).
