QPR 1-1 Brentford
Brentford goalkeeper Paul Smith made three superb saves to help his side earn a deserved point in the draw with west London rivals QPR at Loftus Road. QPR took the lead with their first attempt on goal. New signing Lee Cook raced down the left and his pinpoint cross found Marc Bircham who nodded in from close range after 18 minutes. Brentford hit back though and Stephen Hunt's cross from the left was nodded down by Martin Rowlands to Kevin O'Connor. Though he seemed to mis-hit his shot, it managed to wrongfoot Nick Culkin and roll into the net on the half-hour mark. Just before half-time Smith was forced into action. First he palmed away Richard Langley's free-kick and then from the resulting corner Clarke Carlisle glanced a header goalwards which was expertly tipped over by the goalkeeper. Rowlands went closest for Brentford in the second half with a shot which flew inches over while Rangers almost nicked it only for Smith to deny Terrell Forbes.
QPR: Culkin, Forbes, Carlisle, Palmer, Murphy, Langley, Bircham, Rose, Cook, Furlong, Gallen. Subs: Day, Padula, Daly, Thomson, Angell. Brentford: Paul Smith, Dobson, Marshall, Sonko, Somner, Rowlands, Fullarton, Evans, Hunt, O'Connor, Vine. Subs: Jay Smith, Williams, McCammon, Julian, Hughes. Referee: M Messias (N Yorkshire).
