Oldham 0-2 Wigan
Jason De Vos (centre) opened the scoring
Wigan consolidated their position at the top of Division Two after goals from Nathan Ellington and Jason De Vos gave them victory at Oldham. Paul Jewell's team have now won eight games on their travels this season while Oldham are without a league win in four. Oldham goalkeeper Les Pogliacomi was tested first but he comfortably held on to Peter Kennedy's free-kick from 25 yards. Oldham boss Iain Dowie was then forced into an early change with the injured John Eyre replaced by Lee Duxbury. The hosts threatened when Julian Baudet met David Eyres' free-kick but his header was saved by John Filan before Tony Dinning had an effort blocked by Fitz Hall at the other end. The visitors finally took the lead when Ellington notched his 16th goal of the campaign, latching on to a header from Neil Roberts and drilling home a low left-foot shot. Dinning failed to hit the target with a right-foot shot as Wigan attempted to extend their advantage. They later did just that when De Vos headed the ball into the roof of the net following Scott Green's corner. Things went from bad to worse for the home side when Darren Sheridan was dismissed for a second bookable offence following a challenge on Roberts.
Oldham: Pogliacomi, Hall, Baudet, Beharall, Murray, Eyre,
Darren Sheridan, Armstrong, Eyres, Corazzin, Killen.
Wigan: Filan, Eaden, De Vos, Jackson, Baines, Green, Dinning,
Jarrett, Kennedy, Roberts, Ellington. Referee: A Hall (West Midlands)
