Oldham 2-0 Stockport

Fitz Hall's first goal of the season and the first of his career by teenage striker Scott Vernon gave high-flying Oldham victory over Stockport.

It made it nine league wins out of 11 for the Latics and left mid-table County with just three points out of the last 15.

But it was far from a classic derby duel at a rain-swept Boundary Park which attracted a crowd of 8,256 - the biggest of the season.

The gloom was finally lifted five minutes before the break. A David Eyres corner was headed upwards in the box by Oldham centre-back Clint Hill and Hall arched his 6ft 4in frame to head home.

The home side stepped up the pace in the second half and County goalkeeper Lee Jones had to make telling saves to keep out Carlo Corazzin, Paul Murray and Wayne Andrews.

But he was beaten again in the 90th minute. A flick by Chris Killen was chased by Vernon and the 18-year-old, who had come on as a substitute three minutes earlier, slipped the ball under the diving body of Jones.

Oldham: Pogliacomi, Low, Hall, Hill, Armstrong, Eyres, Murray, Eyre, Darren Sheridan, Corazzin, Andrews. Subs: Miskelly, Holden, Beharall, Killen, Vernon.

Stockport: Jones, Lescott, Challinor, Clare, Tonkin, Gibb, McLachlan, Fradin, Ellison, Burgess, Beckett. Subs: Spencer, Goodwin, Briggs, Daly, Hardiker.

Referee: M Pike (Cumbria)
