Northampton upset the form book to end a run of four straight defeats against in-form Luton.

They won 3-0 thanks to two first-half goals from Jamie Forrester and a superb strike from Marco Gabbiadini.

Luton, with six wins from their last seven outings, were rocked by Forrester's early double.

Northampton's top scorer opened the scoring in the 10th minute, racing onto Paul Harsley's pass to neatly beat Cedric Berthelin.

He repeated his feat 10 minutes later, rounding off a neat move involving Gabbiadini and Derek Asamoah.

Gabbiadini sealed Northampton's victory five minutes after the restart with a superb opportunist strike, chipping the stranded Berthelin from fully 35 yards after receiving the pass from Forrester.

Northampton had further chances with Asamoah and Chris Hargreaves off target while the impressive Gabbiadini was thwarted by Berthelin.

Luton's only real chances fell to Steve Howard, who headed over, and Tony Thorpe, whose header was saved by Lee Harper.
