Cardiff 3-0 Peterborough
Cardiff's Robert Earnshaw takes on Sagi Burton
Rob Earnshaw was a thorn in Peterborough's side

Cardiff stayed top of Division Two after a convincing victory over 10-man Peterborough.

In a sensational opening, the visitors' central defender Simon Rea was dismissed after just 15 seconds for pulling back Cardiff's Robert Earnshaw.

Posh had no answer to the Bluebirds' slick passing and Graham Kavanagh shot them ahead in the 19th minute with a net-busting volley.

Earnshaw put rampant City 2-0 up with a penalty eight minutes after the break and Rhys Weston netted the third three minutes later.

Peterborough never overcame the loss of Rea and did well to keep Cardiff at bay for so long.

Home manager Lennie Lawrence may be disappointed that his side failed to make their superiority count even more in terms of goals.

Gareth Whalley had been brought back in to the starting line up in place of Chris Barker and he responded with a busy whole-hearted display.

The Cardiff midfield, with Willie Boland outstanding, were never in trouble as the Bluebirds made it six straight victories at Ninian Park.

Cardiff: Alexander, Weston, Prior, Gabbidon, Croft, Boland, Kavanagh, Whalley, Maxwell, Thorne, Earnshaw. Subs: Barker, Fortune-West, Hamilton, Campbell, Margetson.

Peterborough: Tyler, Gill, Joseph, Rea, Burton, Jelleyman, Bullard, Shields, Hyde, Andy Clarke, Allen. Subs: Edwards, Farrell, Lee, Newton, Fenn.

Referee: P Danson (Leicestershire)
