Bristol City washed out

Referee Steve Tomlin abandoned the Second Division match between Bristol City and Notts County at Ashton Gate after four minutes of the second half because of a waterlogged pitch.

County had taken the lead in first-half injury-time when Paul Heffernan turned between two defenders to send a low shot past Steve Phillips.

But by then there was already water lying on the playing surface and more heavy rain during the interval meant the ball would not travel more then a few yards in certain waterlogged areas.

Referee Tomlin consulted both captains and then the two managers before ordering a 10-minute break to see if conditions improved.

They did not and City's six-match winning sequence in the league was preserved.

They had the better of the first half but Matthew Hill and Lee Peacock wasted good chances, allowing Heffernan to strike against the run of play.

Bristol City: Phillips, Coles, Butler, Hill, Murray, Burnell, Tinnion, Aaron Brown, Bell, Roberts, Peacock. Subs: Hulbert, Woodman, Rosenior, Lita, Myhill.

Notts County: Garden, Stone, Fenton, Richardson, Nicholson, Cas, Brough, Whitley, Bolland, Heffernan, Stallard. Subs: Mildenhall, Caskey, Liburd, Riley, Allsopp.

Referee: S Tomlin (E Sussex).
