Wycombe 2-0 Chesterfield
Wycombe striker Andy Rammell rose from the substitutes' bench to shoot a second-half brace and earn a home victory over resolute Chesterfield. Rammell did not make the starting line-up due to motorway traffic congestion but exploded into life within four minutes of his arrival. Until then, Chesterfield goalkeeper Carl Muggleton's brilliance with superb blocks from Sean Devine and Keith Ryan had denied Wycombe an opener. But those saves paled into insignificance when he moved incredibly quickly to tip over a vicious cross-shot from home league debutant Lewis Cook. Chesterfield midfielder Jamie Burt rattled the home crossbar after 62 minutes. But then Wycombe took the lead, Rammell firing his second goal of the season 10 minutes later with a close-range effort after Dannie Bulman's free-kick had been knocked on by defender Andy Thomson. The points were secured after 80 minutes when Rammell met Darren Currie's pinpoint cross at the near post.
Wycombe: Talia, Senda, McCarthy, Thomson, Vinnicombe, Cook, Bulman, Ryan, Simpson, Faulconbridge, Devine. Subs: Rammell, Rogers, Currie, Brown, Harris. Chesterfield: Muggleton, Dawson, Howson, Payne, O'Hare, Booty, Brandon, Hudson, Davies, Reeves, Burt. Subs: Allott, Rowland, Howard, Richmond, Rushbury. Referee: P Crossley (Kent)
