Hudd'field 1-1 Colchester

An injury-time equaliser from Jon Stead salvaged Huddersfield a draw against Colchester.

Striker Stead tapped home the rebound after substitute Scott McDonald's shot hit the base of the post, to register his third goal of the season.

Colchester took an early lead through as Kevin Rapley ran on to Scott McGleish's through ball and calmly slotted a low shot underneath advancing keeper Scott Bevan.

Huddersfield battled hard against a well-organised Colchester defence, but Mark Warren should have scored from close range when he headed straight at Bevan.

Huddersfield winger John Thorrington's early cut-back almost produced a goal, but Martin Smith's shot was cleared off the line.

Smith also tested keeper Simon Brown with an overhead kick, but Mick Wadsworth's side ran out of ideas until Stead's late leveller.

Huddersfield: Bevan, Sharp, Moses, Brown, Jenkins, Baldry, Mattis, Holland, Thorrington, Smith, Stead. Subs: Senior, Schofield, McDonald, Irons, Dyson.

Colchester: Brown, Keith, White, Warren, Stockwell, Stockley, Pinault, Bowry, Izzet, Rapley, McGleish. Subs: Morgan, Richards, Steele, Odunsi, McKinney.

Referee: P Joslin (Nottinghamshire).
