Wigan 2-1 Stockport
Wigan came back from a goal behind for the second week running to beat Stockport and claim top spot in Division Two after a tense local derby at the JJB Stadium. Stockport hot-shot Luke Beckett gave the visitors the lead in their first attack after just three minutes when he pounced on a mistake by Wigan defender Nicky Eaden to shoot low past John Filan. But the home side, who bounced back from a goal deficit at Plymouth last week, were in the same determined mood. And it was no surprise when top scorer Nathan Ellington bagged his 11th goal of the season four minutes into the second half when he headed home Gary Teale's perfect centre. And Wigan's comeback was complete on the hour when the hard working Neil Roberts volleyed home from just inside the area.
Wigan: Filan, Eaden, Jackson, De Vos, McMillan, Teale, Jarrett, Dinning, McCulloch, Roberts, Ellington. Subs: Yeomans, Flynn, Kennedy, Mitchell, Liddell. Stockport: Jones, Challinor, Clare, Palmer, Gibb, McLachlan, Lescott, Lambert, Tonkin, Daly, Beckett. Subs: Spencer, Goodwin, Burgess, Ellison, Ross. Referee: C Webster (Tyne & Wear).
