Barnsley 1-4 Bristol City

Christian Roberts scored his first hat-trick for Bristol City to make Danny Wilson's return to Barnsley a happy one.

Wilson, making his first appearance at Oakwell since resigning as boss four years ago, saw his side take the lead when Brian Tinnion's cross found Roberts at the back post.

The striker's effort at goal was saved by goalkeeper Andy Marriott only for Tony Butler to hammer home the rebound.

Roberts added number two before Barnsley were given hope when half-time substitute Leo Bertos pulled a goal back soon after coming on.

But City put to rest any hope of a home comeback when Roberts scored his second goal of the game, and he completed the rout with a deflected free-kick.

Barnsley: Marriott, Austin, Morgan, Curle, Williams, Betsy, Lumsdon, Gary Jones, Gorre, Fallon, Dyer.
Subs: Parry, O'Callaghan, Bertos, Neil, Griff Jones.

Bristol City: Phillips, Coles, Hill, Butler, Bell, Murray, Burnell, Doherty, Tinnion, Beadle, Roberts.
Subs: Hulbert, Brown, Woodman, Lita, Myhill.

Referee: D Pugh (Merseyside).
