Colchester 0-1 Oldham
Colchester suffered their third successive defeat with the loss at home against Oldham. Oldham had the edge throughout, with a marked midfield superiority, and owed their winning goal to substitute Wayne Andrews. He scored with a spectacular strike only two minutes after he replaced Josh Low. Andrews turned sharply and smacked an unstoppable shot from the edge of the penalty box. Earlier, the game had sparked to life with the sending-off of the rival skippers. Oldham's Clint Hill was red-carded for a foul on Micky Stockwell on 53 minutes and three minutes later Colchester's Mark Warren was also sent off after a melee involving several players. Colchester were again disappointing up front and lacked punch. Their only shot on target over the 90 minutes came late on when Dean Morgan was foiled by a point-blank save by Leslie Pogliagomy.
Colchester: Brown, Stockley, Izzet, Steele, Warren, White, Bowry, Stockwell, Pinault, McGleish, Morgan. Subs: Rapley, Coote, Odunsi, Opara, McKinney. Oldham: Pogliacomi, Low, Hall, Hill, Beharall, Eyre, Eyres, Darren Sheridan, Carss, Wijnhard, Corazzin. Subs: Miskelly, Andrews, John Sheridan, Holden, Baudet. Referee: G Hegley (Hertfordshire)
