Swindon 0-1 Cardiff
Leo Fortune-West scored the only goal of a fiercely competitive match as Cardiff claimed a narrow victory against Swindon. Fortune-West reacted well to turn in a shot from 10 yards after a long throw by Andy Legg caused havoc in the Robins' box. A long throw from Legg should have provided Cardiff with a goal before Fortune-West's strike. But Peter Thorne headed against the post and Bart Griemink then made an outstanding save to deny Gareth Whalley. Whalley missed two further excellent chances and Swindon almost punished the Bluebirds, but Eric Sabin was unable to convert their best opportunity. Cardiff held on to bounce back from defeat by Northampton last week.
Swindon: Griemink, Edds, Willis, Gurney, Heywood, Duke, Davis, Miglioranzi, Robinson, Sabin, Invincibile. Subs: Farr, Parkin, Reeves, Edwards, Young. Cardiff: Alexander, Weston, Gabbidon, Prior, Legg, Croft, Kavanagh, Whalley, Thorne, Fortune-West, Campbell. Subs: Earnshaw, Maxwell, Hamilton, Barker, Margetson. Referee: B Knight (Kent)
