Tranmere 1-0 Cheltenham

A double substitution inspired Tranmere Rovers to victory against Cheltenham Town.

However, the visitors can feel hard done by after dominating the game for large periods of the match.

Home goalkeeper Ian Feuer had to make excellent saves from Martin Devaney and Michael Duff to keep Tranmere in it.

And Cheltenham were unlucky not to go ahead after 55 minutes when Lee Williams picked up a loose ball following a mistake by Kevin Gray, but his lob rebounded off the post.

Tranmere sent on Iain Hume and Stuart Barlow and the two combined brilliantly for the goal. Hume fed Barlow and he produced a tremendous 25-yard shot.

Substitutes Russell Milton and Hugh McAuley had good chances to try and salvage a point for Cheltenham but time was against them as they slipped to a disappointing defeat.

Tranmere: Feuer, Allen, Gray, Sharps, McGibbon, Nicholson, Mellon, Navarro, Harrison, Price, Haworth. Subs: Achterberg, Barlow, Parkinson, Hume, McGuire.

Cheltenham: Book, Victory, Mike Duff, Walker, Howarth, Yates, Williams, Finnigan, Devaney, Alsop, Naylor. Subs: Higgs, Brayson, Milton, McAuley, Jones.

Referee: M Cooper (West Midlands)
