Plymouth skipper Paul Wotton celebrated his 25th birthday with a 30-yard wonder strike in the 85th minute to clinch a home win over Luton Town.

The Pilgrims had taken the lead after 56 minutes when left-back Brian McGlinchey hit a thundering 25-yard strike past Hatters goalkeeper Carl Emberson.

Luton restored parity with an equally fine goal in the 67th minute when target-man Steve Howard let fly with a rising drive from 20 yards which gave goalkeeper Romain Larrieu no chance.

The visitors had been reduced to 10 men in the ninth minute when Chris Coyne was dismissed for holding back Plymouth target-man Micky Evans as he latched onto a superb through-ball from McGlinchey.

Plymouth: Larrieu, Worrell, Malcolm, Wotton, McGlinchey, Bent, Friio, Adams, Phillips, Evans, Lowndes. Subs: McCormick, Beresford, Hodges, Sturrock, Keith.

Luton: Emberson, Boyce, Perrett, Coyne, Davis, Brkovic, Spring, Nicholls, Robinson, Howard, Thorpe. Subs: Neilson, Fotiadis, Crowe, Bayliss, Kimble.

Referee: T Parkes (W Midlands).
