A spectacular goal four minutes from time by Chris Brandon gave Chesterfield a narrow home victory over Port Vale and sealed their first win of the season.

Brandon's overhead kick from 12 yards settled the contest and although Brett Angell pulled a goal back from the penalty spot in stoppage time, it was too late for Brian Horton's men.

The first half saw Vale go close with an Angell header that was cleared off the line, but Chesterfield made a stunning start to the second half when Rob Edwards scored from close range after 34 seconds.

Angell had another header saved on the line but Brandon's acrobatic effort in the 86th minute sealed Vale's fate.
