Bournemouth relegated
Wrexham 2-1 Bournemouth

Bournemouth were relegated to the Third Division following their defeat at Wrexham.

Late goals by Andrew Morrell and Carlos Edwards cancelled out Carl Fletcher's seventh-minute strike and condemned the Cherries to the league basement.

Fletcher's early goal had seemingly put Bournemouth on the way to register only their second league win on their travels this season.

It was all to prove in vain anyway as nearest rivals Notts County claimed a vital 2-0 home victory over Huddersfield.

A County defeat and a Bournemouth victory would have seen the Cherries safe.

The home side nearly opened the scoring in the second minute after Andrew Morrell unleashed a terrific shot from the edge of the area.

Bournemouth goalkeeper Gareth Stewart pulled off a fantastic save to tip his shot round the post.

Bournemouth then took the lead when Fletcher headed home James Hayer's cross to score only his fifth goal of the season.

Wrexham were unlucky not to be level four minutes later when Shaun Pejic's header from Darren Ferguson's corner came back off the woodwork.

Stewart came to the Cherries' rescue again five minutes before half-time when he produced a fine save to keep out Ferguson's piledriver.

It needed a stunning strike by Morrell to finally beat Stewart before the visitors were reduced to 10 men when Fletcher was sent off for a second bookable offence 10 minutes from time.

Their misery was complete when Edwards grabbed a last-gasp winner for Wrexham and condemned Bournemouth to Division Three football next season.
