Troubled Bury completed a season to forget when defeat at Peterborough confirmed their relegation from the Second Division.

Bury, in administration, went into the game needing to bag several goals and hope Notts County lost at home to Huddersfield.

However, the Shakers were under the cosh for the majority of the game while County claimed a 2-1 win to seal the Gigg Lane outfit's fate.

Bury made a bright start and David Nugent twice had a sight on goal, scuffing a shot wide before his second effort was blocked.

Peterborough's response saw Helgi Danielsson test Bury goalkeeper Glyn Garner from the edge of the box.

Leon McKenzie, who had wasted two earlier efforts, made it third time lucky from the penalty spot in the 27th minute when he was fouled by Garner.

Bury were unfortunate not to be on level terms when George Clegg saw his shot come back off the woodwork five minutes after the break.

Gareth Seddon was twice denied by brilliant saves from Luke Steele as Bury searched for an equaliser, which finally came 15 minutes from time.

Paul Reid's corner found Seddon in front of goal and he tucked the ball away from close range.

But they were level for just two minutes as McKenzie scored his second and 18th of the season to seal Bury's fate.
