Bristol City's hopes of a play-off berth were dealt a severe blow by their thrashing at Blackpool. Richard Walker opened the scoring after eight minutes as he headed home John Murphy's cross, and he returned the favour five minutes later for Murphy to slot home with a low drive. Murphy netted his second of the game with a close-range finish after 29 minutes, and they added a fourth before the break through Martin Bullock. Blackpool continued in the same vein after the break, with defender John Hills adding a fifth in the 49th minute with a well-taken strike. The Robins were stunned, and only started playing after Tony Thorpe had scored a consolation on the hour with an emphatic finish.
