Cambridge bounced back from their relegation at the weekend to produce one of their best performances of the season and thrash Chesterfield.

The visitors may have thought they were in for an easy time as they aimed for the one win they need for survival against the rock-bottom U's.

But they were a goal down after only five minutes and virtually out of it as they trailed 3-0 by the 36th minute.

Former QPR winger Tony Scully led Cambridge to their first victory for 10 weeks by laying on the first two goals and scoring the fourth.

His cross in the fifth minute was headed home by Dave Kitson, and another pinpoint centre on the half-hour gave Shane Tudor a simple tap-in.

Tom Youngs added a third on the rebound five minutes later after a save by goalkeeper Nathan Abbey and Cambridge were in complete control.

Scully headed the fourth after 64 minutes from a cross by Luke Guttridge, and it was no more than a consolation when Glynn Hurst headed Chesterfield's goal in the 77th minute.

To add to Chesterfield's misery they had Jonathan Howard sent off six minutes from time for a second yellow card.
