Wrexham were relegated to the Third Division despite Lee Jones' five-goal salvo giving them a resounding win over Cambridge.

Results elsewhere went against the Dragons and the heroics of Jones were in vain, but at least Wrexham went down fighting.

Jones grabbed the opener on 15 minutes with his first goal since returning to the club from Barnsley and he doubled the advantage four minutes into the second half.

The striker completed his hat-trick a minute later, added a fourth just after the hour and made it five in the 74th minute.

Alex Revell hit the post for Cambridge late on.

Wrexham: Rovde, Whitley, Pejic, Lawrence, Holmes, Bennett, Phillips, Ferguson, Barrett, Jones, Morrell. Subs: Rogers, Gibson, Sam, Edwards, Morgan.

Cambridge Utd: Perez, Fleming, Tann, Angus, Murray, Tudor, Guttridge, Ashbee, Scully, Kitson, Youngs. Subs: Marshall, Bridges, Revell, Mustoe, Goodhind.

Referee: R Furnandiz (Doncaster).
