Cardiff kept up their unbeaten run under Lennie Lawrence with a win at Colchester.

Spencer Prior scored the only goal of the game, firing the ball into the roof of the net in the 19th minute after a shot from Daniel Gabbidon hit the crossbar.

It was Prior's second goal of the season and the Welshmen had the first-half edge despite losing recent 1m signing Andy Campbell with a leg injury.

Colchester had most of the second-half play but had only one real chance of an equaliser when Adrian Coote headed inches over the crossbar.

Colchester: Brown, Stockwell, Blatsis, Fitzgerald, Keith, Duguid, Pinault, Izzet, Bowry, Coote, MacDonald. Subs: Knight, McGleish, Canham, Chambers, White.

Cardiff: Alexander, Weston, Prior, Gabbidon, Croft, Kavanagh, Boland, Bonner, Campbell, Thorne, Fortune-West. Subs: Earnshaw, Brayson, Maxwell, Collins, Bywater.

Referee: P Danson (Leicester)
