Wigan had Scott Green and manager Paul Jewell sent off - but record signing Nathan Ellington scored the winner on his debut at Chesterfield.

In an unpleasant game, Wigan had Green dismissed for handling a goalbound shot and boss Jewell was also banished from the touchline shortly afterwards.

Andy Liddell gave Wigan a fifth-minute lead from close range but Mark Allott equalised from the penalty spot after Green had used his hand to block Glynn Hurst's shot.

But Ellington put Wigan back in front when he turned on the edge of the area to drive a low left-foot shot into the bottom corner.
