Brentford moved ahead of Reading and into the automatic promotion places with an emphatic win over Huddersfield.

The Bees completely dominated the first half and opened the scoring in the 27th minute.

Lloyd Owusu toe-poked home from close range after Terriers goalkeeper Martyn Margetson had saved a Paul Evans free-kick.

Steve Sidwell doubled the lead eight minutes later when he fired home from the edge of the penalty area following good work by Owusu.

The Bees completed the scoring five minutes before the break, Martin Rowlands slotting the ball home from 12 yards.

Steve Coppell's men almost added a fourth after half-time when Evans saw his 30-yard free-kick crash against the crossbar.

Huddersfield created very few clear goalscoring opportunities despite having leading goalscorer Leon Knight available.

Midfielder Dwayne Mattis had one of their few attempts but his 25-yard drive blazed over the crossbar.

Lou Macari's men, who face promotion rivals Cardiff on Tuesday, are now looking nervously over their shoulders as they bid to hang on to their place in the play-offs.
