Striker Andy Liddell took his season's goal haul to a career-best 17 with an early double and it proved enough to secure a win over Peterborough. He fired in the first after five minutes hitting the target from just outside the box. And Liddell struck again seven minutes later when his free-kick hit the wall and he hammered the follow up past Mark Tyler. The Posh keeper denied him a hat-trick with an excellent save, but Wigan wasted chances galore with Gary Teale shooting wide, Lee McCulloch heading off-target and new signing Jason Jarrett had a header saved. David Farrell pulled one back scoring at the far post after 48 minutes and Wigan keeper John Filan denied Peterborough a share of the points with a late save from Jimmy Bullard.
Wigan: Filan, Jackson, De Vos, De Zeeuw, McMillan, Teale, Mitchell, Jarrett, Green, McCulloch, Liddell. Subs: Ashcroft, Kilford, Santus, Roberts, McGibbon. Peterborough: Tyler, Danielsson, Joseph, Edwards, Pearce, Andy Clarke, Bullard, Forsyth, Farrell, Green, McKenzie. Subs: Rea, Oldfield, Gill, Connor, Fenn. Referee: A Bates (Stoke on Trent).
