Chris Billy's first goal since May 2000 earned Bury a vital victory over Brentford. The three points were crucial for Bury in their battle for Second Division survival. Billy, starting a game for the first time since January due to injury, struck twice after half-time to dent Brentford's automatic promotion chances. Billy's opener after 47 minutes was a superb strike from 20 yards. His second came in the 74th minute after good work by teenage substitute David Nugent and skipper Martyn Forrest. Lee Unsworth cleared a Lloyd Owusu shot off the line but the Bees were a pale imitation of the team that hammered Bury 5-1 at Griffin Park earlier in the season. The Shakers victory was all the more remarkable as they were without suspended trio Sam Collins, Danny Swailes and Paul Reid. Former England Under-21 international Jamie Stuart was also missing with damaged ankle ligaments.
Bury: Kenny, Connell, Unsworth, Nelson, Clegg, Billy, Forrest, Borley, Clarkson, Newby, Lawson. Subs: Barrass, Nugent, Preece, Hill, O'Shaughnessy. Brentford: Paul Smith, Dobson, Ingimarsson, Theobald, Anderson, Rowlands, Paul Evans, Sidwell, Hunt, Owusu, O'Connor. Subs: Gottskalksson, Boxall, Powell, Hutchinson, Williams. Referee: A Kaye (Wakefield)
