Brighton 2-1 Bristol City

Lee Steele headed a dramatic stoppage-time winner as Brighton strengthened their bid for automatic promotion with a 2-1 win over Bristol City.

Substitute Steele glanced in a cross by Gary Hart after City's Tom Doherty had cancelled out Junior Lewis's opener four minutes before the break.

It was a blow for City, who had put Brighton under considerable pressure and forced keeper Michel Kuipers to make a string of excellent saves.

Kuipers was at his best shortly after Doherty's equaliser when he superbly tipped a tremendous 25-yard drive from debutant Christian Roberts over the bar.

Lewis struck to hit his fourth Brighton goal after an inswinging free-kick from Paul Watson, but Doherty drew City level from close-in when Scott Murray headed back a cross from Brian Tinnion.

Brighton: Kuipers, Watson, Mayo, Cullip, Morgan, Lewis, Brooker, Carpenter, Nathan Jones, Hart, Gray. Subs: Oatway, Steele, Hadland, Pethick, Chris Jones.

Bristol City: Stowell, Carey, Bell, Robinson, Lever, Murray, Tinnion, Burnell, Doherty, Peacock, Roberts. Subs: Thorpe, Aaron Brown, Phillips, Matthews, Coles.

Referee: M Fletcher (Warley).
