Cambridge's Ian Ashbee missed a late penalty as Huddersfield hung on for a 1-0 win at the Abbey Stadium.

The spot-kick was awarded for a push on Paul Wanless by Gareth Evans, but Ashbee rolled a dreadful effort wide of the left-hand post, virtually condemning the home side to relegation.

Huddersfield struggled to produce the form which saw them beat Wycombe 4-2 in midweek, but they got the vital breakthrough in the 64th minute.

Substitute Clyde Wijnhard lifted the ball into the box and Leon Knight made no mistake with a header.

Cambridge Utd: Perez, Goodhind, Tann, Duncan, Murray, Guttridge, Wanless, Ashbee, Jackman, Youngs, Tudor. Subs: Marshall, Fleming, Scully, Revell, Bridges.

Huddersfield: Margetson, Jenkins, Clarke, Gray, Evans, Thorrington, Irons, Holland, Schofield, Knight, Facey. Subs: Phillip Senior, Hay, Heary, Moses, Wijnhard.

Referee: S Tomlin (Lewes).
