Wycombe striker Jermaine McSporran dented Stoke's promotion challenge with a late strike at Adams Park. McSporran broke the deadlock in the 83rd minute after a competitive second half that witnessed a host of bookings and superb saves from Stoke goalkeeper Neil Cutler. Stoke remain fourth, one point adrift of Brentford and eight points behind leaders Reading. Wycombe's goal was created by Darren Currie's cross from the which McSporran siezed to fire past Cutler. But the goalkeeper had ridden his luck in the 70th minute when he felled onrushing midfielder Dannie Bulman after running out of his area. Despite the home supporters yelling for a red card, Cutler survived with a caution. Stoke striker Deon Burton, on loan from Derby, came close to an equaliser minutes before the end and Wycombe goalkeeper Martin Taylor was forced to pounce on a poor backpass.
