Martin Rowlands grabbed a brace as Brentford stormed to an emphatic victory over struggling Wrexham at the Racecourse Ground. After a quiet opening half hour, Paul Evans silenced the home fans when he broke the deadlock with a superb 35-yard drive which gave Wrexham goalkeeper David Walsh no chance. The Dragons pushed forward in search of an equaliser but were hit by a sucker-punch five minutes before half-time when Rowlands sidefooted the ball home from Ben Burgess' cross. Brentford could have gone further ahead after 69 minutes but Rowlands shot over the crossbar after combining well with Burgess. The Irish winger did not have long to wait for his second goal as Evans' long ball sent him clear in the 77th minute and he produced a clinical finish.

Brentford: Paul Smith, Dobson, Ingimarsson, Powell, Anderson, Rowlands, Sidwell, Evans, Hunt, Owusu, Burgess. Subs: Julian, Boxall, Gibbs, O'Connor, Williams. Referee: A Leake (Darwen).
