In-form Port Vale's play-off dream became closer to reality as their seventh victory in eight games moved them closer to the top six.

Vale dominated the first half and were rewarded when Marc Bridge-Wilkinson curled in a delightful 18th-minute goal after excellent work by John Durnin.

The second half brought a glut of chances at both ends with substitute Richard Pacquette and Doudou almost snatching a point for Rangers.

But Vale also had their moments with top scorer Stephen McPhee wasting numerous opportunities to add to his 13 goals so far this season.

Port Vale: Goodlad, Carragher, Rowland, Walsh, Burns, Cummins, Brisco, Bridge-Wilkinson, McPhee, Durnin, Brooker. Subs: Delaney, McClare, Burton, Armstrong, Paynter.

QPR: Digby, Perry, Bignot, Palmer, Shittu, Griffiths, Langley, Rose, Bonnot, Gallen, Doudou. Subs: Evans, Ben Askar, Murphy, Paquette, Daly.

Referee: M Brandwood (Lichfield)
