Peterborough earned a point from a draw at home to play-off hopefuls Oldham in their bid to pull away from the Division Two danger zone. Howard Forinton pounced to open the scoring after nine minutes when he headed the ball past Latics goalkeeper Paul Rachubka from close range. But the lead lasted only two minutes as Paul Murray prodded the ball home from six yards after Allan Smart had crossed low into the box. Four minutes later, the favour was returned when Smart expertly lobbed Mark Tyler following a delicate Murray through-ball. Posh rallied in the second half and got back level in the 65th minute when Neil Fenn lashed the ball past Rachubka after intercepting a wayward Tom Williams shot. Midfielder Jimmy Bullard, the man of the match, hit the crossbar with a 30-yard free-kick as the hosts looked for a winner, but Oldham held out for a hard-fought draw.
Peterborough: Tyler, Williams, Joseph, Edwards, Gill, Farrell, Forsyth, Bullard, French, Forinton, Fenn. Subs: Pearce, Connor, Green, Danielsson, MacDonald. Oldham: Rachubka, Armstrong, Balmer, Baudet, McNiven, Eyres, Murray, Appleby, Smart, Reeves, Corazzin. Subs: Kelly, Rickers, Clegg, Colusso, Holden. Referee: M Warren (Walsall).
