High-flying Brighton were held at home by lowly Wrexham after a goalless draw at the Withdean Stadium.

With it ended the Seagulls' fine run of five consecutive home wins which helped them climb into an automatic promotion spot.

A misfiring Albion badly missed their top goalscorer Bobby Zamora, who was suspended, and the both sets of fans had little to cheer in a game of few chances.

In fact, visitors Wrexham had the better opportunities and Brighton goalkeeper Michel Kuipers saved well from Darren Ferguson early on.

Kuipers, who has now kept 10 consecutive clean sheets, was nearly caught out trying to pick up a back-pass.

He had to scramble to prevent the ball from crossing the line.

Brighton defender Paul Watson wastefully shot over in the second half after Wrexham goalkeeper Marius Rovde could only parry a drive by Richard Carpenter.

In the closing stages Wrexham striker Hector Sam shot narrowly wide of Kuipers' left-hand post while Brighton's Simon Morgan had to clear a Craig Faulconbridge effort off the line.

Brighton: Kuipers, Pethick, Cullip, Morgan, Watson, Melton, Carpenter, Lewis, Brooker, McPhee, Hart. Subs: Mayo, Oatway, Steele, Jones, Lee.

Wrexham: Rovde, Whitley, Lawrence, Carey, Holmes, Phillips, Thomas, Ferguson, Blackwood, Faulconbridge, Sam. Subs: Edwards, Walsh, Sharp, Pejic, Trundle.

Referee: M Cooper (Walsall).
