Cardiff maintained their promotion push with a comfortable 3-1 win at Bournemouth thanks to goals from Graham Kavanagh, Robert Earnshaw and Willie Boland.

Bournemouth only sparked into life after going three goals down, but they deserved their consolation after 74 minutes through Derek Holmes.

Cardiff never looked back from the 15th minute when the unmarked Kavanagh headed home a centre by Jason Bowen.

Five minutes later, Bowen flicked on a corner from Andy Legg to give Earnshaw a simple second.

Boland fired in the third after a quickly taken free-kick in the 52nd minute and only three outstanding saves from Gareth Stewart prevented the Bluebirds adding more.

Bournemouth: Stewart, Purches, Howe, Tindall, Maher, O'Connor, Hayter, Carl Fletcher, Stock, Holmes, Feeney. Subs: Menetrier, Elliott, Broadhurst, Melligan, Foyewa.

Cardiff: Alexander, Gabbidon, Weston, Young, Legg, Hamilton, Boland, Kavanagh, Bonner, Bowen, Earnshaw. Subs: Gordon, Low, Brayson, Maxwell, Simpkins.

Referee: D Crick (Worcester Park)
