Port Vale 3-2 Oldham

Steve McPhee's 12th goal of the season thwarted Oldham's terrific second-half fightback as Vale gained a 3-2 win.

First-half goals from Sean McClare after 22 minutes, his first for the club, and Stephen Brooker at the stroke of half-time, his 10th of the season, put Vale in the driving seat.

But Oldham looked the more likely winners after Matt Appleby's 25-yard drive pulled one back in the 48th minute and Carlo Corazzin equalised 20 minutes from time.

Lee Duxbury struck a post as the visitors continued to pile forward, before a defensive slip gave McPhee the chance to fire in an 81st minute decider.

Port Vale: Goodlad, Walsh, Carragher, Burns, Cummins, McClare, Brisco, Rowland, Armstrong, McPhee, Brooker. Subs: Delaney, Burton, Bridge-Wilkinson, Ingram, Atangana.

Oldham: Rachubka, McNiven, Beharall, Balmer, Armstrong, Eyres, Duxbury, Appleby, Murray, Eyre, Corazzin. Subs: Darren Sheridan, Tipton, Holden, Baudet, Rickers.

Referee: M Clattenburg (Cramlington)
