A brilliant Lee Peacock free-kick was enough to secure a 2-1 victory for Bristol City and condemn 10-man Swindon to their first league defeat under Andy King.

City took the lead after 20 minutes when Matthew Hill was gifted a free header from an Aaron Brown cross.

Swindon's task was made even harder six minutes after the restart when captain Alan Reeves was dismissed.

Reeves had appeared to kick out at a City player as the home side lined up a wall.

Peacock added insult to injury by blasting home an unstoppable left-foot shot from the free-kick to double the visitors' advantage.

Loan signing Dominic Foley reduced the arrears with a debut goal when he chipped Steve Phillips after 58 minutes to set up a tense finish, but it was not enough.

Swindon: Griemink, Heywood, Reeves, Willis, Duke, Davis, Steve Robinson, McAreavey, Invincibile, Foley, Sabin. Subs: McKinney, Mark Robinson, Nathan Edwards, Williams, Young.

Bristol City: Phillips, Murray, Coles, Amankwaah, Bell, Burnell, Tinnion, Hill, Aaron Brown, Thorpe, Peacock. Subs: Lever, Hulbert, Rodrigues, Marvin Brown, Attwell.

Referee: U Rennie (Sheffield).
