Port Vale 2-1 Brentford
E-mail your reaction to Football Talk

A wonder goal by former Liverpool youngster Ian Armstrong earned 10-man Port Vale a superb 2-1 victory over promotion-chasing Brentford.

The 19-year-old sprinted onto Stephen Brooker's pass, leaving two defenders trailing before smashing a fierce 16-yard shot high into the net in the 70th minute.

It was level at half-time after Stephen McPhee's injury-time penalty for Vale wiped out Lloyd Owusu's 31st minute header which fired the Bees ahead.

Brentford looked firm favourites after Sagi Burton's second bookable offence saw him dismissed for Brian Horton's side in the 51st minute

But Vale dug in and deservedly took all three points.

Port Vale: Goodlad, Walsh, Carragher, Burton, Cummins, McClare, Durnin, Rowland, McPhee, Armstrong, Brooker. Subs: Delaney, Hardy, Brisco, Burns, Painter.

Brentford: Gottskalksson, Dobson, Powell, Ingimarsson, Anderson, Evans, Mahon, O'Connor, Hunt, Owusu, Burgess. Subs: McCammon, Williams, Hutchinson, Theobald, Paul Smith.

Referee: A Butler (Sutton-in-Ashfield)
