Swindon 3-1 Bury

Swindon brought Bury's revival to a halt as the troubled Wiltshire club enjoyed their first win since the departure of manager Roy Evans.

Town had failed to win a league game in December.

But they saw off the challenge of the Shakers, who had lost just once in eight outings, in Andy King's second game back in charge.

Goals from Andy Gurney and Bobby Howe inside the first eight minutes set the home side on their way at the County Ground.

Bury striker Jon Newby pulled one back for the visitors after 25 minutes when he was perfectly placed at the back post to tap in a cross from Chris Billy.

Scupper

But on-loan midfielder Wayne Carlisle restored Swindon's two-goal advantage six minutes after the break with a curling free-kick from 25 yards.

Danny Invincible went close and Carlisle almost added a second as Swindon looked to extend their lead.

Jason Jarrett was sent off four minutes from time for his second yellow card offence to scupper any hopes of a late Bury comeback.

The result pushed Swindon up to 13th in the table but leaves Bury hovering precariously near the relegation zone once again, just three points clear of Notts County in 20th place.
