Mark Allott scored his first goal for Chesterfield as they won the relegation battle against Notts County at Saltergate 2-1.

The match was full of drama and controversy with referee Philip Walton stretchered off early in the match which ended with Notts County reduced to 10 men.

Walton was injured in a fifth-minute collision with Gary Owers.

His replacement Andy Martin then dismissed Magpies goalkeeper Stuart Garden for handling just outside his area after 57 minutes.

Before that, Chesterfield had gone ahead through a Mark Innes goal after 43 minutes.

Jamie Burt found Innes in space and he blasted home a left-foot shot from the edge of the penalty area.

A Nicky Fenton header pulled County level two minutes after the break following a Darren Caskey corner.

After Garden's dismissal County produced an impressive rearguard display, but their resistance was finally broken seven minutes from time when Allott scored from close range.

With five minutes remaining Marcel Cas almost scored a dramatic equaliser, only to see his shot saved by Nathan Abbey.
