Steve McPhee's second half goal earned struggling Port Vale a deserved victory and ended Bristol City's six-match winning streak.

City forward Tony Thorpe struck a post early on, but that was as good as it got for the visitors as Vale took charge.

Sean McClare and Ian Armstrong went close in the first half before McPhee netted his ninth of the season in the 63rd minute.

Sagi Burton headed on a long throw from Michael Walsh and McPhee buried a right-foot shot on the turn from 12 yards out.
