Two superb strikes by Cardiff captain Graham Kavanagh secured a 3-1 victory over Oldham.

Kavanagh netted his first in the 73rd minute and finished off a battling Oldham side with his second goal deep in injury time.

City's leading scorer Robert Earnshaw had opened the scoring after 36 minutes when he headed home after a Peter Thorne header had flashed across the face of the goal.

Kavanagh's superb all-round performance was capped by a blistering drive from fully 30 yards.

And then in time added on he raced half the length of the field before slotting the ball past Paul Rachubka in the Oldham goal.

Substitute John Eyre scored Oldham's goal within a minute of Kavanagh's first goal.
