A free-kick from Bristol City striker Lee Peacock proved to be the winner as Notts County failed to hold on for a point. The Robins looked to be in control after Craig Ireland's 12th-minute own goal had put them ahead. But the scores were level on 65 minutes when Magpies debutant James Quinn deflected a Marcel Cas shot into the net. Within a minute, Peacock put the home side back in front from the penalty-spot after Gary Owers had fouled Tony Thorpe. The Robins striker then made it 3-1 from a free-kick, before Liam Chilvers set up a tense finish with County's second in the 75th minute. Keeper Mike Stowell protected his side's lead with a fine 84th-minute save from Tony Hackworth as both sides created late chances.
