Bournemouth 0-2 Tranmere

Defender Gareth Roberts' 40-yard free-kick helped Tranmere to a 2-0 win against Bournemouth and the first win by an away side at the Fitness First Stadium.

Roberts delivered his free-kick from wide on the right after 65 minutes which was intended for striker Jason Price.

Price failed to make contact but the ball bounced awkwardly in front of goalkeeper Gareth Stewart before creeping inside the left-hand post to extend Tranmere's advantage.

Price had given the visitors a deserved lead three minutes before half-time when he drove home a low shot from the edge of the area after being given time to shoot.

The lanky striker also forced two more saves from Stewart as Bournemouth struggled to create chances.

Wade Elliott forced goalkeeper John Achterberg into a fine save from 15 yards in the 66th minute.

And substitute Chukki Eribenne had a good chance in injury time but blazed wide of the left-hand post when unmarked. Bournemouth: Stewart, Broadhurst, Howe, Tindall, Purches, Elliott, Hughes, Melligan, Stock, Holmes, Hayter. Subs: Menetrier, Eribenne, Kandol, O'Connor, Maher.

Tranmere: Achterberg, Yates, Hill, Allen, Roberts, Navarro, Flynn, Henry, Koumas, Allison, Price. Subs: Mellon, Murphy, Parkinson, Barlow, Sharps.

Referee: P Alcock (Halstead).
