Cardiff recorded their first home win since September, but were forced to hang on after a dream start as they beat Chesterfield. Robert Earnshaw gave the Bluebirds the lead from the penalty spot after only two minutes and Leo Fortune-West doubled their advantage midway through the first half.
Luke Beckett struck a post on the hour as the visitors pressed for a what would have been a deserved equaliser. Cardiff: Alexander, Gabbidon, Prior, Young, Legg, Boland, Hamilton, Kavanagh, Brayson, Earnshaw, Fortune-West. Subs: Maxwell, Low, Bonner, Weston, Collins. Chesterfield: Abbey, Booty, Breckin, Edwards, Payne, D'Auria, Hitzlsperger, Ingledow, Ebdon, Reeves, Beckett. Subs: Willis, Richmond, Jones, Parrish, Williams. Referee: P Rejer (Tipton)
