Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 Tranmere

Sheff Wed 2-1 Tranmere

Sheffield Wednesday remain unbeaten this season at home thanks to two early goals in their win over Tranmere.

The Owls led 2-0 within seven minutes, with Reda Johnson heading home and Chris Lines's low shot beating Tranmere keeper Paul Rachubka.

They had further chances with Rachubka saving Clinton Morrison's shot and Chris O'Grady firing wide.

Rovers got a consolation when veteran defender Ian Goodison headed in a cross from Danny Holmes.

VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM

Sheffield Wednesday assistant manager Chris Evans told BBC Radio Sheffield:

"I'm just delighted. It's been a really good 48 hours for us - six points going into the new year and we couldn't have asked for anything more.

"I thought the first half was the best performance since the gaffer (Gary Megson) has been at the football club.

"It was a big crowd, absolutely outstanding. It's a Premier League crowd and in the first half it was a Premier League performance."

Tranmere manager Les Parry told BBC Radio Merseyside:

"I'd have settled for a 10-0 scoreline after five minutes to be quite honest because we just kept gifting them chances.

"But in the second half I thought our lads were magnificent and they showed character as they could have wilted.

"They did what we asked them to do and we were never going to recover from 2-0 down I don't think, even though we did have the chances."
