Two goals from Luke Beckett ended Chesterfield's run of seven league games without a victory. Beckett pounced in the 59th and 85th minutes in a one-sided second-half to condemn the U's to their eighth away defeat of the season. Cambridge failed to take advantage of some promising openings before the break and were punished when goalkeeper Lionel Perez spilled a shot from David D'Auria and Beckett put away the rebound. Perez made good saves from Beckett and David Reeves but was beaten again five minutes from the end when Beckett turned in a low cross. Cambridge's only second-half threat came in injury-time when Nathan Abbey was forced to make a good save from Colin Alcide. Chesterfield: Abbey, Booty, Breckin, Payne, Edwards, Ebdon, D'Auria, Richardson, Hitzlsperger, Reeves, Beckett. Subs: Richmond, Willis, Ingledow, Moore, Jones. Cambridge Utd: Perez, Warner, Walling, Angus, Ashbee, Tudor, Guttridge, Wanless, Alcide, Youngs, One. Subs: Marshall, Duncan, Fleming, Kitson, Scully. Referee: G Salisbury (Preston). |
