Top-of-the-table Brentford made it seven straight league wins with a home victory against Blackpool. The Seasiders had the better of the first half and leading scorer Brett Ormerod went close twice. But Brentford opened the scoring after 64 minutes when Steven Sidwell - on loan from Arsenal - thundered home a 25-yard strike. The Bees wrapped up proceedings two minutes from time, with Lloyd Owusu slotting the ball home from 12 yards after he latched onto a Michael Dobson through ball. Blackpool played neat attacking football but did not have the finishing touch when chances were presented to them. Graham Fenton struck the crossbar with a header five minutes after the break and was carried off shortly afterwards. Brentford: Gottskalksson, Anderson, Ingimarsson, Powell, Dobson, Mahon, Gibbs, O'Connor, Sidwell, Burgess, Owusu. Subs: Paul Smith, McCammon, Hutchinson, Williams, Jay Smith. Blackpool: Pullen, Parkinson, Jaszczun, O'Kane, Reid, Jamie Milligan, Fenton, Bullock, Caldwell, Simpson, Ormerod. Subs: Barnes, Wellens, Hills, Mike Milligan, MacKenzie. Referee: G Hegley (Bishops Stortford). |
