Peterborough sent Queens Park Rangers further into freefall and continued their own surge up the Division Two table with an emphatic victory.

Skipper Steve Palmer put the visitors ahead inside four minutes - but that was as good as it got for Ian Holloway's goal-shy side.

A host of Posh chances went begging before David Farrell dragged them level in the 39th minute.

And on the stroke of half-time Posh turned the game around when Neale Fenn's close-range effort was adjudged to have crossed the line.

The home side had the points in the bag three minutes after the restart when Leon McKenzie finished off a great move involving Jimmy Bullard and Farrell.

But worse was yet to come for Rangers.

Debutant defender Danny Shittu was red-carded eight minutes from the end for pulling down McKenzie and Fenn grabbed his second from the ensuing free-kick.

Subs: Connor, Oldfield, Shields, Danielsson, French.

QPR: Day, Shittu, Palmer, Rose, Burgess, Bignot, Bonnot, Bruce, Dodou, Connolly, Paquette.

Referee: G Salisbury (Preston).
